On Thursday Julia had lots of fun, including her first bath at home, and a visit from more friends.
Here Raquel is washing her hair.
A few shots from after her wash . . .Look at my clean feet everybody. (Doesn't she have big feet? They almost didn't fit in the foot ink stamp area of her baby book.)Later that day she was resting on Mom and Dad's bed.One of her new friends came to watch over her.
Of course, we quickly learned the lesson that to get good pictures with children you have to shoot a lot of pictures (how did our parent's do it with 35mm film?) Here are some of the out takes of today's efforts.
She's going for the knockout blow on this guy since she couldn't eat him.Tong out is one of her favorite poses.
I can't tell if she gave herself a back hand smack here, or she's getting ready to smack me.The series below was taken as we tried to get a shot that we could use on a birth announcement. We ended up getting the shot, after about 50 takes.
The winning shot actually came right before this one.
Neil is able to take some time off for Julia's birth, so of course we're busy playing with our new little girl, having lots of fun with her around the house. Here are some fun shots of our day today.
We got her started out right, in yellow ducky pajamas. Every little girl's favorite, I'm sure. Here she's checking Neil out from inside her bassinet.
Next we took her over to the nursery room (she's sleeping in our room until after Raquel's family go home in September) and had her test out her crib and the accompanying stuffed animal thingee (they tell me this is called a "lovie").
After that we had her test out the day bed, because we thought it would make the best picture backdrop. We learned, unfortunately that sitting upright is not quite in her repertory yet. After just a couple of seconds of trying she appeared to be pretty uncomfortable. So we moved on to letting her pose lying down. Here are a few fun ones.Next Raquel wanted to get a shot of her in some underpants she brought back from her trip to Brazil earlier this year. They say "I belong to Mama".While she wasn't too happy with those panties, by the end of the photo shoot, our girl was pretty happy.
At 3:50 PM on Sunday August 9th, Julia Pereira Hanson was born at Texas Women's Hospital in Houston. At birth she measured 19 and 3/4 inches long, and 8 pounds, 8 ounces.
Here is Mom and baby less than an hour after Julia was born.
Dad got to hold her some also before they took her up to the nursery. Here we all are together. Mom and Dad are happy but Julia is looking a little tired. Of course, she was born in Texas but Neil planned ahead to get as much Husky gear around her as he could at her birth. Late Sunday after confirming that both mother and baby were doing well, they moved us into a post partum recovery room. We stayed there until early afternoon on Tuesday. Here are some shots of us together while Raquel and Julia recovered. We had a bunch of visitors, thanks to everyone who came and shared in our joy!!! Here is a picture of Raquel with Avery, the daughter of Walter and Scha, who we know from Sunday School class. Her and her brother had a good time making more bracelets for Mom and Dad to supplement the ones the hospital had us wearing. Finally, at about 3PM on Tuesday afternoon, Julia arrived home. Welcome home Julia!!!! Praise God for the blessing we have just received!!
We were very blessed by everyone in our lives who threw showers for us with the new baby on the way. On the afternoon of the 23rd, Neil's co-workers threw a shower for us and invited Raquel. Fortunately she was able to break away from her office and attend. We had cake and punch and they showered us with tons of gifts. Praise God for the generosity of the people he has brought into our lives.
Nina, the office Administrative Assistant, made sure Neil left his office for lunch so that she could properly decorate it for the occasion. Thanks Nina for organizing a great shower!!!
Here's Neil opening one of the many presents we received at the shower. Thanks everyone!!!!
Below are a couple of pics of Neil's co-workers at the party.
We have made a lot of progress on the bathroom project ... nothing like a looming deadline to motivate us. We have completed the sinks, the bathtub (which I have been able to greatly enjoy) and the toilet sections. We are still slowly progressing on the shower. Neil advanced a little bit on the tiling and I was suppose to get quotes on the glass work but no luck (no one showed-up on Friday or called back with prices). Well.... we have 3 more weeks!
On June 19th, a few friends got together during our Sunday School Class night out to celebrate our new baby. It was our first official baby shower. We used the church's youth room. The host, Scha, did a great job with all the decorations, food, games and prizes. We even had ice cream cake! Here are a few shots of the action!
