First Month with Julia

We celebrated Julia's first month with Raquel getting back to making and decorating cakes, something she hasn't had time to do in quite a while. Raquel found a 3D rubber ducky cake pan and couldn't resist the temptation so we had rubber ducky cake to celebrate the first month of Julia's life with us.

Of course, our little girl had to pose with the cake some . . .
Mom had to clean off her fingers after the photo shoot. They were pretty tasty fingers. We had to eventually start eating the cake though, and he lost his head.

Return to Brazil

At the end of Labor Day we said goodbye to Pedro, Cassia and the kids, as well as Renata, all of whom visited for a few weeks after Julia's birth.
Pedro took the opportunity to spend some final time with his first grand daughter.

Labor Day at the Park

Before everyone went home to Brazil, we spent Labor Day with a picnic in the park.

A Poem for Julia By Eliza Oliveira

Our friend and poet Elisa Oliveira wrote a poem for Julia. I made a poor attempt at translating it, as you can see after the Portuguese version. I wish you could read it in the Portuguese version, there is nothing like it.

Julia

JOIA VINDA DAS MAOS DO CRIADOR.
UMA BENCAO PARA HANSONS E PEREIRAS.
LINDA, MEIGA, TAO PEQUENA!
INFANTE EM BRACOS QUE ABRACAM DEUS.
AMADA DESDE O VENTRE PELOS ENTES SEUS.

PRECIOSOS SAO OS CAMINHOS DO SENHOR
E NELES, CERTAMENTE, TU SERAS TREINADA.
RISONHA E A TUA FACE E GRACIOSO, O TEU OLHAR.
ENCANTO DE MENINA, ESTRELINHA DA RAQUEL E NEIL!
IGUALA TI NAO HA, DEUS TE FEZ UNICA, COMO CADA SER,
RELEMBRANDO EN TI, O SEU PODER,
A SUA GRANDEZA E A SUA MERCE.

HOJE, TU NAO CONHECES NEM OS TEUS DEDINHOS.
AMANHA, AO PROSSEGUIRES NA TUA INFANCIA,
NO DIA-A-DIA, OUVIRAS SOBRE JESUS, O SALVADOR.
SEJA O TEMOR A ELE, O TEU SABER,
O LOUVOR A DEUS, O TEU PRAZER.
NA TUA VIDA, PROCLAMA E HONRA O NOME DO SENHOR!

ELIZA OLIVEIRA

Jewel from the hands of the creator.
A blessing to Hansons and Pereiras.
Beautiful, sweet, so small!
Infant in the arms that embrace God.
Loved since the womb by the ones that are yours.

Precious are the ways of the Lord
and in his ways, certainly, you will be trained.
Smiley is your face and gracious the look of your eyes.
An enchantment of a girl, a little start of Raquel and Neil!
Like you there is none, God made you unique, as every being,
Reminding us in you, His power,
His grandeur and His Mercy.

Today, you do not know your little fingers.
Tomorrow, as you progress in your infancy,
In the day-to-day, you will hear about Jesus, the Savior.
Be the fear of Him, your wisdom,
The praise of God, your pleasure.
In your life, proclaim and honor the name of the Lord!

There is a First Time for Everything....

Pereira family having Persian food for lunch... It was a hit!
Julia with a pacifier. It didn't last long... no milk came out of it!

Look Who Else Came to Visit!

Vovo Pereira came to spend the weekend with Julia! He has been spending time in Atlanta with Florence, Cleiton and Keren, and came by to see us before returning to Brazil. It was great to see him!
During Vovo's visit we had lunch at a Brazilian restaurant with our friends Martin and Ellen.

Sweet Time with Tia Renata

Galveston

We also spent a day getting out to Galveston. We had a nice Italian lunch at Mario's and walked on the beach a little. Fortunately the weather cooperated and the clouds were out while we were on the beach, so it was relatively cool. The breeze off the ocean helped too.

Here are a few shots of us on the beach.
We took the free ferry across to the Bolivar Peninsula to come home on the eastern route. Here are a few shots on the ferry.

Kemah Borardwalk

While the Pereira family was here we got to visit a few place. Here is our adventure at the Kemah Boardwalk. We had lunch at the Aquarium and visited the boardwalk itself. This place was completely destroyed during the hurricane last year. It was nice to see everything rebuilt.
